WebnoteHappy Help - Sharing via del.icio.us

What is del.icio.us?

del.icio.us is an online social bookmarking service. Or as they describe themselves: "del.icio.us is a collection of favorites - yours and everyone else's."

What are "shared webnotes"?

Shared webnotes are webnotes which have been shared with the world. They exist both on your Mac and on the del.icio.us servers. You can see that a webnote is shared in the webnotes table when it has an icon representing del.icio.us. You can also verify it is shared via the Inspector.

How does WebnoteHappy integrate with del.icio.us?

With WebnoteHappy, you can import your del.icio.us bookmarks. These become shared webnotes. To do this, choose "File > Import from del.icio.us"

You can also explicitly Share your webnotes via the "Share" toolbar button.

Also, you can "Unshare" your webnotes, to remove them from del.icio.us, but keep them on your Mac.

Sharing and unsharing work even with multiple webnotes selected, but this can take a while, due to API constraints.

Does WebnoteHappy synchronize with del.icio.us?

Updates to shared webnotes are automatically sent to del.icio.us.

Note that deleting a shared webnote does not remove it from del.icio.us

Does WebnoteHappy support del.icio.us private bookmarks?

Yes, but you cannot create new del.icio.us private bookmarks with WebnoteHappy yet. They can arrive via Import. You know if it is del.icio.us private if the icon is grayed-out.

Do I need a del.icio.us account to use shared webnotes?

Yes. To register, go to http://del.icio.us/register

How does WebnoteHappy handle my del.icio.us account details?

WebnoteHappy prompts you for your username and password the first time you use Import from del.icio.us or Share a webnote. It will then store your del.icio.us password securely in the Keychain. This is why sometimes Mac OS X will ask if you want to allow WebnoteHappy to access the Keychain.

If you want to change your del.icio.us username or password that is used later, you can do so in the General Preferences via "WebnoteHappy > Preferences"
